Leadership Overview
Michael J. Sacks is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of GCM Grosvenor. He joined the firm in 1990 and was named Chief Executive Officer in 1994. Under his leadership, GCM Grosvenor has grown from an early participant in a developing industry to a global alternative asset management solutions provider with approximately $91 billion in assets under management across private equity, infrastructure, real estate, credit, and absolute return investment strategies.
Philanthropic and Civic Engagement
Philanthropy and civic engagement are longstanding priorities for Mr. Sacks and his wife, Cari, and his efforts extend across a broad range of Chicago-based institutions – he is a founding board member of the Obama Foundation and serves as a trustee at Northwestern University, the Art Institute of Chicago, and Intersect Illinois. He previously served as vice chairman of World Business Chicago for eight years.
Education and Recognition
A member of the Illinois Bar, Mr. Sacks graduated from Tulane University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and holds a general course certificate from the London School of Economics. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a Juris Doctor from Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law. Most recently, Mr. Sacks was named Crain’s Chicago Business Executive of the Year for 2025, received the 2025 Navy Seals Foundation Patriot Award, and the 2023 Better Government Association’s Daniel L. Goodwin Watchdog Award.
